چکیده
held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich Switzerland, from June 25 to June 28, 2008. Robotics: Science and Systems is a single-track conference that aims to showcase the best research and the most exciting systems from all areas of robotics at a single conference to a broad audience. Special provisions are made to enable students to participate in this conference. This year, there were two different kinds of travel awards available to students. Robotics: Science and Systems was technically cosponsored by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the International Foundation of Robotics Research, and AAAI. Funding for the conference was provided by the National Science Foundation, the Naval Research Laboratory, ABB, Microsoft Research, Microsoft Robotics, Evolution Robotics, Willow Garage, and Intel. Springer sponsored the best student paper award. The meeting brought together more than 280 researchers from Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia. The papers presented at the meeting and compiled here cover a wide range of topics in robotics spanning computer vision, mapping, terrain identification, distributed systems, localization, manipulation, collision avoidance, multibody dynamics, obstacle detection, microrobotic systems, pursuit evasion, grasping and manipulation, tracking, spatial kinematics, machine learning, sensor networks, and applications such as autonomous driving and Reports

متن کاملDual Space Control of a Deployable Cable Driven Robot: Wave Based Approach
Known for their lower costs and numerous applications, cable robots are an attractive research field in robotic community. However, considering the fact that they require an accurate installation procedure and calibration routine, they have not yet found their true place in real-world applications. This paper aims to propose a new controller strategy that requires no meticulous calibration and ...
متن کاملPosition Control of a Pulse Width Modulated Pneumatic Systems: an Experimental Comparison
In this study, a new adaptive controller is proposed for position control of pneumatic systems. Difficulties associated with the mathematical model of the system in addition to the instability caused by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) in the learning-based controllers using gradient descent, motivate the development of a new approach for PWM pneumatics. In this study, two modified Feedback Error L...
متن کاملRobust state estimation in power systems using pre-filtering measurement data
State estimation is the foundation of any control and decision making in power networks. The first requirement for a secure network is a precise and safe state estimator in order to make decisions based on accurate knowledge of the network status. This paper introduces a new estimator which is able to detect bad data with few calculations without need for repetitions and estimation residual cal...
متن کاملRobotics in the Classroom: Providing Robotics Equipment to Support Intelligent Systems Curricula
The authors present how the Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems (IRIS) at California State University, Chico (CSUC) provides access to robotics equipment to support courses in intelligent systems. The supported courses range from core courses in computer science, general education courses, and senior project courses in computer science and in engineering.
